Number porting without commitment — 2026 guide

Your number is yours, not the carrier's

Spanish law forces every carrier to release your number if you decide to switch. Free and fast. Only exception: you're inside a commitment period with your current operator (proportional penalty applies).

How long porting takes

Mobile line: 1 working day after signing with the new operator. You'll get an SMS with the exact switchover date.

Fixed line (fibre/ADSL): 2-5 working days. Fibre install may add 1-3 days if a technician visit is needed.

Combined (mobile + fibre): usually syncs within 5-7 days. VAMOS coordinates both — no need to call your previous operator.

Required paperwork

Mobile port: current number, NIE/DNI/passport and a recent bill in your name. If the line is in someone else's name, they must sign or authorise the port.

Fibre port: exact installation address, NIE/DNI and current line details. Renting? No landlord approval needed unless physical works are required.

Old carrier penalty: how to calculate

If you're under commitment, your carrier can charge a penalty proportional to remaining time. Example: 4 months left out of a 12-month contract → up to 4/12 of the device discount you got.

Movistar and Orange typically charge €50-200 if you have 6+ months left. Vodafone is stricter (up to €350).

Pro tip: ask your carrier for a written breakdown BEFORE porting. They're legally required to provide it, and you can often dispute abusive charges.
